Welcome to the Kids and Cancer Benefit Run!
2012 Kids and Cancer Benefit Run Date is July 21st!
The Kids and Cancer Run initially started in 1998 as a way to share, with other motorcyclists, the physical beauty of our area and the freedom of "cruising" the roads in and around the Allegheny National Forest and the Kinzua Dam area in Northwestern Pennsylvania and Southwestern New York. One of the goals, of course, was to generate funds for charitable causes but, more importantly, to promote the tourist attractions of the area - from the biker’s eye.
Approximately 8000 individuals have participated in the past thirteen Benefit Runs. They have come from Germany, Canada, Arizona, Florida, Texas, Indiana, Nebraska, North and South Carolina, Ohio, New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania. In 2006, the Kids and Cancer Benefit committee decided to add another aspect to the activities and has sponsored a motorcycle raffle each year since then. These raffles have not only generated additional charitable contributions, but have enabled those who do not ride to become involved.
Through the generosity of Run participants and raffle tickets purchasers, the Kids and Cancer Committee has been able to donate over $166,000 since 1998 to individuals, medical facilities, cancer related organizations, and various service clubs that benefit kids and their families. A grateful thank you is extended to all those who have supported or participated in our activities because it is your dollars that have helped so many.
2011 Raffle Bike - Harley of Hope
|
The 2011 Kids and Cancer Raffle Bike is called the Harley of Hope. It is a Harley Super Glide Custom with custom paint and airbrush by Chris Maida of CM Designz.
We decided to call this the Harley of Hope because hope, along with “other things”, becomes a big part of a person’s life when they are diagnosed with cancer or another serious illness.
The “other things” involve scans and X-rays, bloodwork, chemo and radiation therapy, surgery and so on. These things come and go as the seriousnes of the illness comes and goes, but one thing remains constant, and that is HOPE. Everybody hopes, at the very best, for a cure. If the doctors say that’s not possible then remission or a surgery that “gets it all” is terrific as well. And if that’s not an option and it comes down to chemo for six weeks, radiation for 12 and then “we’ll see”...well, that’s when hope is what you hold on to.
Please know how important your support is and how much it is appreciated. Every raffle ticket purchased could lead to a much needed donation to a family to buy another tank of gas to make a trip to Roswell or Buffalo Children’s Hospital or it could be the money to pay for a prescription or just a little extra to pay the bills this month because Mom or Dad has used up all their vacation time with a sick child.
It is the hope of the Kids and Cancer Committee that the donations given to families, individuals and medical facilities help to sustain their hope.
